This time, I was called to fix a leak around the skimmer box—a job that had already been attempted by someone else, but unfortunately, the previous repair didn’t hold up for long.
The tricky part of resealing a skimmer box is all in the preparation. Removing every bit of old silicone and grime behind the faceplate is crucial for a long-lasting repair. Skipping this step is why many quick fixes fail.
To do it right, I carefully scraped out all the remaining sealant using a blade and picking tools, then cleaned the area thoroughly with cleaning alcohol. To ensure a completely dry surface, I gently heated up the area to remove any remaining moisture trapped behind the faceplate.
With the prep work done, applying the new silicone was the easy part. Once the sealant was applied and smoothed out, the skimmer box was left to cure for 48 hours to ensure a solid, long-lasting seal.
Another properly sealed spa, and another happy customer!
