Spa Pump Repair: High pH Caused Failure
🔧 Local Spa Repairs Update 🔧
A customer recently reached out after leaving their spa unused for half a year, only to find that the pump had stopped working. Initially, I suspected a faulty capacitor, but after inspecting the pump, it was clear that the drive shaft was completely seized.
Testing the water revealed the root cause—an extremely high pH level, way beyond the scale. This had damaged the pump’s mechanical seal, allowing water to leak out and corrode the shaft and bearings. Unfortunately, the pump was beyond repair and had to be replaced.
I sourced and installed a new pump, and sure enough, the spa was back in action. Another happy customer, now more aware of the importance of proper water balance!
